What is Snowbistro? Why I built a data-led comparison of UK ski operators
By Richard Patey. Last updated 29 October 2026.
Short answer: Snowbistro is a ski holiday planning site for UK skiers. Its main page compares 50 UK-facing ski tour operators on numbers you can check: estimated search traffic, ATOL capacity, Trustpilot score, years established, number of resorts and Instagram following. It also has directories for ski hire, airport transfers, ski schools and ski insurance, and resort guides for the Alps and Slovakia. I built it and I run it.
Where it came from
Snowbistro started in 2013 as the brand for my SEO business for ski companies (the story). I spent years inside the UK ski trade: chalet companies, tour operators, ski schools, hire shops. The thing that struck me was how little a skier could find out before booking. Every operator says it is the best. Review sites only cover the ones that ask for reviews.
I now live in Poprad, at the foot of the High Tatras in Slovakia, within easy reach of Jasná. Living in a ski town again, I rebuilt Snowbistro as the comparison I wished existed when I was in the trade.
How it ranks operators
The board ranks by data, not by opinion, and the method is published on the page:
- Default order: estimated monthly organic search visits (Ahrefs, checked 5 October 2026). It’s a proxy for size and demand, not quality.
- Other sorts: ATOL capacity, Trustpilot score, years established, resort count, Instagram followers, Domain Rating.
- Filters: catered chalets, families, school trips, groups, luxury, ten destination countries, flight-inclusive or own travel.
- Missing data stays missing. An operator without a Trustpilot profile is shown as unscored, not zero.
Operators cannot pay to move up the operator board. A separate trade section lets ski businesses buy visibility, and that is labelled as paid.
What the data shows is here. Short version: Crystal Ski gets nearly ten times the search traffic of the tenth biggest operator, and Instagram following tells you almost nothing about who skiers actually look for.
For ski businesses
Snowbistro has a trade section for tour operators, chalet companies, ski schools, hire shops and transfer firms. The main offer is an AI Visibility Pack (£495, one payment), delivered by my AI visibility service Cited. Skiers increasingly ask ChatGPT and Google where to book, and the pack shows a ski business where it appears in those answers and writes the pages that get it in.
FAQ
Who owns Snowbistro? Richard Patey. That’s me.
Is Snowbistro a travel agent? No. It doesn’t sell holidays. It compares the companies that do and links to them.
Can operators pay to rank higher? Not on the operator comparison. Paid options in the trade section are labelled.
Which resorts does it cover? Resort guides for Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz, Chamonix, Méribel and Val Thorens, plus a Slovakia guide including Jasná.
